Madeleine McCann Prime Figure Released from German Jail
The key suspect in the widely publicized disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been freed from a German prison, where he was completing a prison term for an unrelated offence.
The German national was transported out of jail by his lawyer. He wasn't visible in the car, but authorities confirmed his exit from the detention center.
He had been convicted of sexually assaulting an senior citizen in Praia da Luz in the mid-2000s and will be required to wear an electronic monitor after his release.
The German national, 48, has never been charged with offenses linked to the McCann case. He denies all connections.

The young girl disappeared in the holiday destination of a coastal town in 2007. The children had been asleep in a holiday apartment while her parents, the McCanns, were dining at a nearby restaurant.

Investigation and Evidence
German prosecutors have cited evidence—including cellphone records—indicating Brückner may have been in the vicinity when she vanished, and have consistently insisted that they believe he is responsible.
However, they have not found strong enough evidence to bring charges.
The individual, who spent many years in the southern Portugal, was a drifter, a minor offender, and a registered sex criminal. He has multiple previous convictions, including sexually abusing children in the mid-90s and 2016.

Portuguese and German police conducted a new search between the family’s holiday location and properties associated with Brückner in recent months, but this did not produce new leads.
In 2023, the search team conducted operations near the Barragem do Arade reservoir, about 30 miles from the resort.
The man was present in the region between 2000 and 2017 and had images and recordings of himself near the reservoir.
