{'I could have killed them' - Lawson encounters dangerous incident with Formula 1 marshals
Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track right in his path
The dangerous situation happened on the third circuit when marshals were observed on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section
Competitor's Live Reaction
Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"
"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"
"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two guys dashing across the track"
"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"
Safety Concerns Raised
"Obviously there's been a failure in communication somehow but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"
"We cannot comprehend how on a active circuit track officials can be permitted to just sprint across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"
Governing Body Reviewing
The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the situation
"Following a turn one incident, track officials was notified that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the regulatory authority
"In the third rotation, safety personnel were alerted and placed on standby to access the circuit and recover the debris once all cars had passed"
"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send marshals were canceled and a safety warning flag was raised in that area"
"The examination is ongoing what occurred following that moment"
