Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were stopped due to an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their specific flights," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the widespread suspension to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as knock-on effects are worked through.
