A Ton of Anime Updates Dropped During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays offer a wealth of activities far superior than scanning the latest news: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and employing patience techniques to not snapping at loved ones. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling developments surfaced over the break, and should you missed any, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not yet been announced.
